Just Us Girls #203 - Photo Inspiration Challenge

We have another great challenge from Just Us Girls this week.  It's inspiration photo week and Tangii chose this great back to school "cake" as inspiration.

Here's a closer look at the inspiration photo.  Isn't that cool?  What a way to start the school year!

Here's what I created.  I obviously took some of the colors and banner from the inspiration.  And the technique came from Jennifer McGuire.  I tell ya, that girl has become my idol!  She is so talented and I love her videos.  Here's the video I watched to make this.  She calls the technique Die Cut Inlay.  By doing this, you can make two cards.  I chose to make a card and a tag.

I started with black, red, yellow, and orchid cardstock cut into 1/4" strips.  I used a glue stick to cover a piece of typing paper and then laid the strips down diagonally.  Then I die cut the word and put it aside.  I then cut the word again from the tag and inlaid that die into the one with the strips of color.  This way it looks inlaid.  I then die cut the triangles and stamped the letters on them.  I "hung" the banner using black twine.  Lastly, I added sequins and some shine on the word with a Wink of Stella clear brush.

Here's the inside.  I cut down my original piece so I had these little strips to add to the inside.

With the piece cut out of my focal image, I inlaid it into the tag that I cut the other word from.  I stamped the word "happy", added sequins and some ribbon.  Doesn't that look cool?  Love it!

I'm also entering this into this week's Case Study challenge where Jennifer McGuire is the muse this month.
