Just Us Girls #481 - Wild Card Week

Happy Saturday!  This is the 5th Saturday of the month at Just Us Girls and we call it Wild Card week.  That means the hostess, Sue, gets to choose a challenge of her choice.  Sue chose for us to use embossing folders.

I have so many embossing folders, and I find myself using the same two or three.  This is one of the ones I like to use.  It's a 3-D embossing folder in a quilt pattern.  I had this image sitting on my desk all colored and ready to be featured on a card.  I used some stitched dies to cut the panels and added some crystals to the image and card to finish it off.

You can see more from our JUGs design team and our March guest, Greta, on the JUGs blog.  This is Greta's last post with us as guest, so I'd like to thank her for all her beautiful cards she created for our March challenges.

Thanks for stopping by!

Time Out #132 - Home Sweet Home Challenge

Hey everyone!  It's time for a new Time Out challenge.  This time, it's our Home Sweet Home challenge.  We have this photo to inspire us.  We are sponsored by Altenew (one of my favorite stamp companies for flowers!).

My eyes went to the striped pillow, pink flowers, and all the gold accents.  The stripes reminded me of a gift card at Hobby Lobby I saw a while back (see a picture of it below).  I knew I had the Gradient Stripes set and lots of different floral sets.  I went with the Watercolor Wonder set.  I stamped the flowers in pink and yellow and some leaves and arranged them on the top part of the cardstock.  The stripes were stamped about three times in Versafine onyx black to get a true dark black.  I had to wait a while to emboss the sentiment.  The stripes took long to dry and I used a heat tool as well to speed things up.  Even with that, there was still some powder sticking to the black ink when I embossed the sentiment.  I added this panel to a shiny gold mat and added some gold sequins.

Here is the other inspiration I used to make this card.

It's Purple Day - The International Day to Raise Awareness of Epilepsy

Hi everyone!  Today is Purple Day which is a day to raise awareness for epilepsy.  My friend and Time Out teammate, Sandie, has this condition and is promoting this day on her blog, London Days.

This is what she has to say about it.

Today we try to spread the word about this condition and make people more aware of it, dispel some of the myths that surround it and educate more people about it.

What better way to spend this day but to make a purple card. Plus the wonderfully creative Fikreta has organised a hop for us-we do have some prizes along the way but our main aim is to raise awareness.

Fikreta talks about some of the facts and myths on her blog post so I will just tell you my story but if you want to know more about Epilepsy-visit Epilepsy Society

I didn't make this card for this hop, but here is a purple card to celebrate the day!

Hop on over to her blog, London Days, and read more about this condition and her giveaway!

Just Us Girls #480 - Photo Week

Happy Saturday friends!  It's time for another challenge at Just Us Girls!  This week is our Photo Week challenge, and Maria chose this fun birthday photo!

It was perfect for what I needed.  My 3 year old grand-niece celebrated a birthday recently, and I needed a card.  I chose this Sprinkles turnabout set from Concord & 9th and stamped the sprinkles in the colors from the photo:  red (which looks orange in the photo), green, blue, and yellow.  I also die cut the sentiment three times from red cardstock.  The cupcakes from the set were stamped, die cut, and placed on dimensionals.  Right after I adhered them, I thought it would have been cool to put them on those wiggly things.  I have them in the small and large sizes, but could only find the large ones and they were too big!  Bummer!  There's shimmer on the sentiment and the cupcakes.

Mom's 90th Birthday!

My mom's 90th birthday is today...the first day of Spring!  We are having a little party on Friday with family and friends to celebrate.  But today, she is getting a birthday cake to share with her friends at her nursing home and this card.

This was my third attempt at making this card!  I first stamped it on watercolor paper and tried watercoloring.  Major fail and it ended in the trash!  Then I tried Zigs on Bristol smooth cardstock.  That worked until I tried to mask the flower and sponge some Distress ink around it.  There was some splotching and dark patches that appeared from where, I do not know!  I tried to cut it out to save it, but failed again!  So I tried again with the Zigs and used another blue marker to watercolor around it.  That worked, finally!  I added it to a scalloped mat and then added the die cut numbers and sentiment.  The panel was sprayed with shimmer and I added some star dust stickles to the center of the yellow flower and some crystals.

Just Us Girls #479 - Color Week

Hi friends!  I'm really late getting my post up for this week's Just Us Girls Color Week challenge!  Time just got away from me!  Nancy chose this really pretty color combo and I just couldn't pass it up!

In hindsight, I was sort of glad I was late.  I just got these new Altenew stamps in the mail this afternoon, and they were perfect for this color challenge.  This is a layering stamp set.  The yellow flowers have two stamps as do the purple flowers, and the leaves are just one stamp.  It took a bit to figure out the layering.  The first time I stamped them, I was a bit off.  So I tried again with better results.  After stamping, I die cut the bouquet with the coordinating die.  I actually die cut it two more times to make it more dimensional.  I took another Altenew stamp set that had a flower stem and stamped it in the vase.  I added some shimmer to the vase and scattered some crystals on the panel.  The sentiment was perfect for my friend who is going through a difficult time.

This is my little card making helper, Martha.  She's 6 months old now and such a good puppy (except she likes to steal any supplies within reach)!

Time Out Challenge #131 - It's Our 5th Birthday!!

Hi friends!  Time Out Challenges is celebrating our 5th birthday!  I cannot believe it's been 5 years of great challenges!   In honor of our birthday, we have this for our Inspired by Words challenge:
"Hugs, kisses, and a lot of birthday wishes".

So I created a fun and colorful birthday card.  I used a birthday turnabout stamp from Concord & 9th in four bright cheery colors.  I die cut the circle in the panel to create a shaker card.  I stamped the sentiment (which I love!) in black Versafine ink and embossed it in clear embossing powder.  I added sequins and stars for the shaker bits.  It's a pretty busy card!  LOL!

Stamplorations is our sponsor this week and to celebrate, they are offering a $50 gift voucher to one winner!  That's a great prize!

Just Us Girls #478 - Trend Week

Hi friends!  For Trend Week at Just Us Girls, Bobby has us using our background stamps.

I have to first start out by saying this isn't a favorite card of mine!  I started by using the Color Throwdown colors of gray, purple, lavender, and kraft.   However, the kraft was not cutting it.  I already had the panel done with the first three colors, so I kept it.  I sponged the gray, purple, and lavender on Bristol cardstock then stamped and embossed the marble background stamp. I added more ink after I heat set the white embossing powder to darken it up.  The sentiment was die cut three times...twice in white and one in purple and stacked them.  Crystals finished it off.

Just Us Girls #477 - Word Week

Hello everyone!  It's Word Week at Just Us Girls and Vicki chose Birthday!  Easy peasy!

I didn't have lots of time to create a card, so when I went to my craft table I found this floral piece siting there.  This is not pattern paper.  It's Altenew washi over cardstock.  I purchased this washi from my stamp store and added it to the cardstock the other day.  It's very cool washi because it's so large.  I used a stitched rectangle to give it some texture and mounted it on some new Lawn Fawn cardstock that was also die cut with a stitched rectangle.  Then all I did was added the sentiment banner and some crystals and adhered the panel to the base.  Very fast card!
