My Time Inspiration Challenge and a Corrosive Challenge

ETA: I have another post after this one, so please keep reading! Thanks!

Were you curious about what the My Time to Create DT was going to do today after seeing the sneak peek collage from yesterday's post? Well, this week's My Time to Create challenge is an inspiration challenge. This is what Lauren Meader gave us as our inspiration.
I looked at this a couple of times before I decided what I was going to do. There is a lot of inspiration to take away from this...the colors, the different patterns, the layout, and the embellishments to name a few. I decided on the colors, some of the patterns, and the two red stripes going across. This is what I came up with.I just received this Strawberries stamp from Flourishes. It was part of their newest release. I just fell in love with this image! They have some real pretty botanical stamps...Sweet Peas and Sweet Violets are another two that I may have to purchase. They are so fun to color and they are just beautiful!

As you can see, I took the colors from the inspiration piece. I have a little of the saffron color in there, but mostly the turquoise, red, and olive colors. I wanted to incorporate some of the patterns in my card and found this red pattern from Basic Grey's Marrakech dp. Lastly, I liked those red stripes, so I used SU's Riding Hood Red taffeta ribbon (retired). As I was coloring the image, I wasn't sure what color the flowers were supposed to be. I thought white, and through the miracle of computers, I searched and found a picture and found they were white with a yellow center. I took a white gel pen and colored the flowers with it to make it even more white, if that's possible! It's much more noticeable in person.

I added dimension by stamping, coloring, and layering the large leaves and the largest strawberry on top of the original with dimensionals. I also used a Sakura star dust glitter pen over almost the entire image! It shines so softly in the light. I added some flowers with yellow brads which I also glittered up with the star dust pen. The sentiment is from the same Strawberries set. (I've also entered this in the Copic Creations challenge blog. Their challenge is coloring botanicals with copics and Flourishes is their sponsor this week.)

If you like this, you should see the great creations the My Time to Create DT has to share with you! Stop by their blogs (most of them participated this week) and leave them some love.

Why don't you try this challenge? We'd love to see what inspiration you get from this piece. If you play, link your direct post to Lauren's blog, and if you post to SCS/PCP, please use the code MTTI03 so we can find it! Thanks for stopping in today! Have a great weekend!

Corrosive Challenge: Who Let the Dogs Out?!?!
I found this Corrosive Challenge blog the other day and, because I love dogs, I decided I had to play. The challenge is all about dogs, so you just had to do any project using a dog theme. I decided to pull out a stamp set I HAD to have, but never used. It's My Favorite Things Friends Furever. Here's my card.
I just thought this was the cutest stamp set when I first set eyes on it. I started with this great dp from DCWV called Nana's Kids. I just loved the colors in it and it paired up perfectly with one of SU's new in colors called Soft Suede. I really like this color! I also paired it with a strip of Brocade Blue that was run through the Cuttlebug with a new embossing folder from Quick Kutz (is that spelled right?) The bone tag was stamped on Certainly Celery and I placed the sentiment inside of it. The "dog brad" is actually a button that I snipped the shank off of. I've colored this cute image with copic markers and sponged some Soft Suede ink around the white parts while the image was still in the oval nestie. (Note to self: Get a softer brush to apply the ink or break down and buy an air brush system!) The tail wouldn't fit inside the oval shape, so I cut around the tail to the body and lifted that piece over the nestie while I was cutting it out.

I also used Amy Rysavy's sketch for this card. Love her sketches!
I hope you enjoyed this post! I just love this dog and his best friend! I miss mine...she's at our cabin this weekend with my dh and I couldn't go because I have other things going on! Have a great weekend!

Happy 4th of July!

This has to be the best day of the year for American citizens...the day we declared our country to be free and independent and then fought for it! And we are still fighting to keep our country safe! Hug a soldier or veteran today, or say a prayer for those in our military! God Bless America!

It's also a good day because today is
Paper Makeup Stamps day 3 of sneak peeks for the July release. Today we are previewing the monsters collection. Let me tell you there are some really cute ones out there. If you haven't seen any of the current monsters collection at PMS, check them out here. They are right up there with the Beautiful Day Fairies collection!

The first one I'm previewing today is Calder with Waterwings. (Katie told us Calder is Scottish and means rough water...watch out Calder!) He is the cutest darn monster ever! Just look at the expression on his face! Precious! I guess monsters are afraid of the water! I colored him with a green copic marker that was too bright for my monster, so I went over it with a W-3 gray marker so it matched the dp better. (That's the great thing about copics...you can layer color over color with wonderful results.) The dp is an old one of SU's called Cutie Pie. I also used Bashful Blue and Rose Red cardstock. The red cardstock was run though the Swiss Dots cuttlebug folder. I punched circles from the background dp with a 1" punch, then paired them with these Page Pebbles that I've had forever. Crystal Effects was used on the waterwings and flippers, and I added these Rain Dots to mimic the splash of the water. The sentiment is from PTI's Star Points set. Someone is out there yelling to Calder, "Just do it...jump!!" The layout is a Taylored Expressions one from a couple of weeks ago.

The next monster preview is called Caliope Camping. There are a few Caliope monsters in the collection. I especially like this one because of my love for S'mores! This little monster also comes with this great sentiment!
Another cutie, don't you think? I love the way the fire came out! I colored the entire fire with a yellow copic marker, then went over the bottom half with an orange marker, then finally the very bottom with a red marker. I then took my blender and blended the colors together. I added orange stickles to the bottom portion and yellow to the top. In the light it shimmers like the real thing! There is liquid applique on the marshmallow and the drippings, too. The dp is SU's Good Morning Sunshine paired with Summer Sun and Chocolate Chip cardstock. I got the layout from Amy Rysavy's blog and this one is by her guest designer Tammy Fielder. I had to search for it because I always print out sketches I like, keep them in a binder, and refer to them all the time! I am terribly sketch challenged, so the sketches everyone posts are INVALUABLE to me and I like to give credit where it's due! Amy's blog is full of great sketches and here's the one I used.

So are you in love with these monsters or what? If you like these, then please go to the PMS blog and the DT blogs (listed on my sidebar) to see what they've done. I've seen them and they are absolutely fantastic! So please take a look! Please remember that on Tuesday, July 7, these images will be available. They are all in digital form and will be available in rubber later as well. We are having a blog hop, and PMS always puts on a great hop with a secret message you will decipher after visiting all the DT blogs! The hop will be all day, but the party begins at 8:00 CST in the
PMS forum. We hope to see you there!

I hope you all have a great celebration today, see some fabulous fireworks, eat some great food, and spend time with your loved ones! Thanks for stopping by!
