Just Us Girls #546 - Photo Week

Hi all!  I'm the hostess over at Just Us Girls this week.  I've chosen the fun summer photo for inspiration.

When I chose the photo, I knew I wanted to use this stamp and die set.  I had a heck of a time finding it, but I finally did!  It's from Avery Elle, but the pig and dog are from other sets (see MFT and Avery Elle respectively, see below).  I stamped and die cut all the images and colored them with copic markers.  Before I adhered them to the main panel, I blended some tumbled glass ink onto it using a mini cloud stencil.  I added the sentiment, some Star Dust stickles, and crystals.

You can see more from our JUGs design team and our July guest, Trina Pham, on the JUGs blog.  It's Trina's last week with us and she has been a great guest.  Thanks so much for all your inspiration!

Time Out #166 - Peaceful

Hi friends!  We are in week two of our Time Out challenge.  The challenge is PEACEFUL.

This challenge is sponsored by Newton's Nook Designs.

I used the stamp set Lake Advice from Newton's Nook for this challenge.  I loved this sentiment and thought it went well with the challenge.  I started by created the background.  I watched one of Jennifer McGuire's recent videos and wanted to try this technique.  I started with some bright blue cardstock and a waves stencil.  I first sponged white pigment ink through the stencil.  After drying the ink and cleaning the stencil, I put it back over the cardstock moving it slightly up.  Then using chipped sapphire oxide ink, I stenciled over the white ink.  It gave it a 3-D sort of look.  I die cut that piece with a stitched rectangle die.  Then I die cut the scalloped banner and stamped the sentiment on it.  The trees, canoe, and paddle were stamped, colored and fussy cut.  Before I adhered them, I stamped the waves.  There is some shimmer on the trees and crystals added.

Just Us Girls #545 - Color Week

Hello there!  We have a great and unusual color challenge going on over at Just Us Girls this week.  Cecile chose mustard, teal and light grey.

I really like this color combination more than I thought I would.  I used it with this window stamp and die set from The Greetery.  I just used three colors:  sauna and twilight from Catherine Pooler and tropical teal from My Favorite Things.  I double stamped the shutters, the flower pot and the bricks to get the darker colors.  I stayed true to the color combination!  The flower pot and the bottom of the curtain are up on dimensionals for a little bit of dimension.  I added sequins on the background and shimmer on other parts of the images.  The sentiment was stamped on the bottom with a darker grey ink.

Just Us Girls #544 - Trend Week

Hi friends!  It's Trend Week at Just Us Girls and Vicki has chosen to do long and skinny cards (aka slimline cards).  I'm so excited for this because I've been wanting to make one of these!

I recently purchased an envelope builder die set from Trinity Stamps.  It not only has the dies for to create an envelope, it also has two word dies and the shadow dies to go with them and the scallop and stitched frame.  I started by die cutting the frame and used my paper trimmer to cut a piece to fit with it for the main panel of the card.  I sponged some tumbled glass oxide ink on it.  Then I went to work on the flowers.  I die cut the piece then used the coordinating layering stamp set to stamp the flowers and leaves.  The piece you see here is the final one after two other tries!  I didn't like the colors I chose on the first try, and on the second try I got pink ink on the leaves.  I put those in the trash, but pulled them out so I could use them to layer behind the final piece.  This gave the die cut more dimension.  The hello sentiment was die cut from gingham pattern paper and also twice from white cardstock.  The shadow was also cut from white cardstock, but only once.  I stamped the sentiment on the main panel, then added the die cut pieces and these very pretty crystals.  That finished the card.

Now I needed an envelope, so I pulled out some very old Stampin' Up pattern paper and used the envelope builder dies to create the envelope.  I wish I had thought ahead and used this paper for the hello die cut too!  I'm definitely going to make more of these.  They are great for these large floral stamps and also dies.

Just Us Girls #543 - Word Week

Hi friends!  Happy 4th of July to my American friends!  I hope you have a safe and happy day!

It's Word Week at Just Us Girls and Carol has chosen the word RAINBOW.

I chose to use rainbow colors with the party pinwheel stencils.  This is such a cool set of stencils!  So easy to create some fun party pinwheels that can accommodate many different color combinations.  I placed a sequin in the center of some of them.  The sentiment die is one that I just received.  I die cut it three times from black cardstock and adhered them together.  I added some shimmer to that.  The main panel was die cut with a crimped frame die.  I love the fun rainbow colors with that black sentiment.

Time Out #165 - Theme Challenge

Hello friends!  The new Time Out challenge is a theme challenge.  The theme is Days Gone By.  This could mean a number of things.

Our sponsor for this challenge is CAS-ual Fridays.

I got nostalgic with this Christmas silhouette stamp.  I didn't get to use it on cards last Christmas, so I'm happy to have the opportunity to use it now.  I just stamped it with Versa Claire nocturne ink and colored a the ornaments with red and gray copics and the candle flames with a yellow copic.  It's die cut with a rounded stitched die.  The sentiment was also stamped in the same black ink and die cut with a sentiment label.  I added some crystals and star dust stickles to the tree.  This was mounted on pattern paper.
