Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2014: November

Hello again!  Two posts in one day is totally unlike me, but I love Tim's tags and I had some time to play today so I made a tag to enter this month.

I loved the way he created this month's tag and while I didn't have all the supplies he had, I made do with what I had (which is still a LOT!).  I started with a manila tag and distress paints (colors are listed below).  I put some on my mat, spritzed it with lots of water, then dragged my tag through it until I got the colors I wanted.  Then I dried it with a heat gun and set it aside.

Next, I took a kraft tag and used an impression plate to get a wood grain effect.  I distressed it with walnut stain then die cut the leaf.  I don't have the distress sprays (yet!), so I took a black soot distress ink and spritzed it with water then created the drips of ink with a paint brush.  The arrow was die cut five times and stacked together.  To distress it a bit, I rubbed some gold metallic rub onto it.  The top and bottom of the tag looked bare, so I inked it up with a checkmate stencil and walnut stain distress ink.  The peach seam binding was added with the tiny attacher and I adhered the arrow on top of it.  Lastly, I stamped the sentiment.

I laid the kraft tag over the manila tag and stamped the veins of the leaf in chocolate chip ink.  Then I took the dot fade stencil, inked Versamark through it, and embossed it with gold powder.  The two tags were then adhered together and the seam binding and twine were tied through the top hole.

Phew!  These tags always take some time, but they are oh so fun to create!  I just love techniques!

I don't know if you can tell, but I purchased a new camera.  I bought a Canon Rebel T3i.  I love it because I don't have to alter the photo at all when I upload it other than to crop it.  I just love how the background is faded.  I can't wait to play with it some more!

That's it for me!  Thanks for stopping by!

12 Tags of 2013 - October

Happy Columbus Day to my American friends!  I spent the weekend at our cabin and today I was off so I went shopping!  I was at my LSS and the mall.  I sure did spend a lot of money.  I guess I should work more and not have so much time on my hands!  LOL!!

So while I was at my LSS, I purchased this moon and owl die from Tim Holtz/Sizzix.  I cut them out of grungeboard, applied glossy accents to it, then sprinkled on the distress glitter.  I used mustard seed on the moon and tarnished brass on the owl.  I wish I had the black glitter for this, but that's on its way to me as we speak!  I set them aside to dry and went to work on the tag background.  I applied antique linen, spiced marmalade, mustard seed, and dusty concord distress paints on the craft mat, spritzed it with water and dragged the tag through it.  Love the way it came out.  Then I added some dusty concord and mustard seed distress inks on top and spritzed with water to get the water droplet effect.   I applied dusty concord distress ink through the bubble stencil, then applied clear embossing powder over it.  The owl and moon were adhered with glossy accents and I stamped the images with black archival ink.  I also took some peach seam binding and added some dusty concord ink to it.

I learned this technique at Tim's Chemistry 102 class.  I'm also going to enter this in his 12 Tags of 2013-October blog post and Our Creative Corner It's Halloween Let's Tag It On.

Thanks for stopping by!

Tim Holtz's 12 Days of Christmas Tags - Day 2

Have you seen Tim Holtz's blog this week?  He's started his annual 12 days of Christmas tags.  I was very intrigued by Day 2's tag.  You can find it here.  He used his fabulous deer die on his tag.  I used the Deer Trio die from Memory Box.  I followed his steps but modified it a bit because I didn't have all the products he used.  I was very pleased with the outcome.  However, the back side is not so pretty!  I guess I have to cover that with more dp or something!
 Thanks for stopping in today!
