Just Us Girls #153 - Technique Challenge

Happy Saturday!  This week over at Just Us Girls is our technique challenge.  Vicki has chosen the line art image technique.  This is where you use a line art stamp that has some detail, but you don't color it.  You can find a great tutorial over on Stamp TV.

I searched through my stamps and found this old one from Great Impressions.  I created a panel of colors in red, yellow, and brown and stamped the image in Versamark then embossed it in white.  Easy peasy!  The sentiment is from Framed Elegance by My Time Made Easy.

Here's the sketch from Clean and Simple Sketches.

Just Us Girls - Technique Challenge

Happy Saturday everyone! This week the Just Us Girls team has a technique challenge for you and something special to give away as well. Andrea chose the cracked glass technique for all of us to try.We are also being sponsored once again by JustRite Stampers. They have been very generous to the JUGs DT this year! We are so happy about that! We are all sharing Christmas/Holiday images on our cards. I chose Vintage Christmas for my main image and Christmas Nested Frames for my sentiment. I love the varied vintage images in this set. This snowman was colored with copic markers, then I followed the instructions on SCS for the cracked glass technique to create this look. Really cool technique. It is a technique I've done before, but many of the JUGs DT mentioned that they had never done it and enjoyed the challenge. Here's a closeup of the image so you can see the cracks that I created. Now about that giveaway I mentioned. JustRite is offering up some amazing products for one randomly drawn winner. Here's what they are giving away:

2 JustRite Christmas Collection stamp sets of choice
2 JustRite coordinating stampers/mounts
5 Copic Sketch markers of choice, from JustRite’s offering
2 Memento full-sized ink pads of choice

Makes you want to enter, right? And you can't win if you don't play! So stop by the JUGs blog to enter your creation and then stop by the personal blogs of the JUGs DT to read about their cards and leave some love! Thanks for stopping by!

Just Us Girls Technique Challenge

Happy Saturday everyone! Are you getting ready for Valentine's Day tomorrow? I have something that may get you jump-started.

The Just Us Girls challenge this week is a technique challenge, and I am hosting it. I chose the split negative technique. I've never tried that, and Splitcoaststampers and Gina K have great tutorials to follow. It was actually very easy to do. And I got to pull out the old embossing powder and Versamark. They have been collecting dust in my stamp room! So here is what I came up with.In order for this technique to work well, you need a chunky stamp...one with a lot of surface area that's rubber. This stamp is an older one from My Favorite Things called Boho Blossoms. I pretty much followed Gina K's tutorial. The red base of my card was stamped with a text stamp in Versamark and embossed in white embossing powder. I ran the other white piece through the Swirls embossing folder. I tied that velvet heart button onto the bow with floss. Embossing powder, no dp, no copics...takes me back to my beginning days of stamping!

I hope you play our challenge and take a look at what the girls have done. You can see their creations on the JUGs blog. You can stop by their blogs, too.

Just Us Girls Challenge - Sew Easy!

Hello again! It's Saturday! Time for another Just Us Girls challenge! Today, Mona has a challenge that is "sew" easy! That's right...the challenge is to sew on your card. Now Mona is the queen of this technique, if you've ever seen any of her beautiful cards! You can use any kind of sewing for this challenge too. Machine sewing, hand sewing, and even faux stitching! If you don't know what faux stitching is, you can get instructions on SCS with this tutorial. It's very easy and I really like that technique. (You can also see how I used it on this card.) However, I recenly purchased a cheap Pixie Craft Sewing Machine by Singer at Walmart before Christmas. It was on sale for about $35, so I thought I'd give it a try. Let me tell you it works like a charm! Look what I did with it.I've had this jeans pocket stamp (yes that's a stamp, not real jeans!) from my LSS one day while I was standing in line. It just called to me to pick it up...and I did and this is the first time I'm using it! The stamp is from Judi Kins and I inked it with Faded Jeans Distress Ink from Ranger/Tim Holtz. It really is the color of faded jeans...amazing! When I took my sewing machine out of the box, it was already threaded with yellow thread. Perfect, since jeans usually have yellow stitching. So I went to work following the stitch lines on the pocket. Here's a closeup of it. I really like the way it came out...it looks so real! The dp is Basic Grey's Bittersweet, and I paired it with Regal Rose. I sewed the dp to the cardstock with one of the three zig-zag stitches on the machine. I ran the white mat through the Swiss Dots cuttlebug folder. The sentiment is from Artful INKables newest set called Love Ya Lots. Love that sentiment! Those hearts coming out of the pocket is something I picked up at Target's dollar spot probably 3 years ago! They were connected together, but when I took them out of the box, they all came apart. So I had to manipulate them into the pocket and I added a tiny piece of ribbon to match the bow on top. Those little hearts on the sentiment tag are from the Martha Stewart heart border punch. It's the little confetti that is left after punching.

I'm pretty happy with the way this came out. It was just what I imagined when I was thinking all day about what I was going to do, which rarely happens, right?

The JUGs team would like to see what you do with your sewing project. We know lots of you like this technique because we see it a lot out there. But if you are new to this technique, try it...you'll love it! The faux stitching is great too. So please stop by the
JUGs blog and see what the other DT members have done with this technique. You can also go to their personal blogs to read about how they created their cards to get more inspiration.

Thanks for stopping in today and enjoy your weekend!
