JUGS #625 - Photo Week

Hello everyone!  This week Bobby chose this beautiful spring photo for the Just Us Girls Photo Week challenge.  So much inspiration!

I had to choose the birds for my inspiration and chose this layering set from Altenew.  I used three shades of yellow and two shades of blue to complete the bird.  I stamped the branch in black and colored it with copic markers.  I tried a couple of different things for the background and settled on this embossing folder from Sizzix.  I used one of those flat brushes from Pink & Main to add color to the embossed parts.  I stamped the sentiment, added the bird (which was die cut two more times and layered for dimension), the tree, and some blue crystals.  I matted the main panel onto a blue panel before adding it to the base.  I also added shimmer to the dark blue parts on the bird.

You can see more from the JUGs design team and our March guest, JoAnn, on the JUGs blog.  This is JoAnn's last week with us and I'd like to thank her for creating such wonderful cards for our March challenges.

Just Us Girls #624 - Color Week

Hello friends!  We have a new Color Week challenge over at Just Us Girls.  Lisa E. chose this very pretty color palette.

I had several new items sitting on my desk that came in when I was on vacation last week.  I had to use them!  I started with an ivory piece of cardstock, rose and sage inks, and this two-step stencil to create the background pattern.  I die cut it with a slimline scalloped die.  I mounted that onto a piece of sage cardstock.  The sentiment was die cut three times from the sage cardstock and stacked.  I then adhered it to the ivory shadow.  I added crystals to give it a finished look.  Simple card this week.

Just Us Girls #623 - Trend Week

Hi friends!  It's Trend Week at Just Us Girls.  Vicki chose using EMBOSSING FOLDERS.  Get out all those folders collecting dust!

I pulled out this Circle Rings embossing folder for this challenge.  I don't know if it's considered 3-D, but the impressions are very deep.  Then I pulled out this Poppies stamp and die set.  I waited so long for this set because it was always out of stock.  It's such a simple design, but I just love it!  I first stamped it with black ink then used the coordinating stamps in three shades of peach for the flowers and two shades of green for the leaves.  I used the same three shades of peach to create an ombre design on the embossed panel, or at least I tried.  There doesn't look like enough of a difference between the three colors and my blending looks a bit splotchy.  I added a sentiment that was stamped in black and embossed with clear embossing powder.  I added clear sequins on the flowers to finish it.

Just Us Girls #622 - Word Week

Hello!  It's March...must closer to those warmer and longer days!  This week is our Word Week challenge over at Just Us Girls.  Elizabeth chose the word LUCKY.

I'm actually feeling some warmer weather this week because I'm visiting my best friend, Maria, in her new home in Bluffton, SC (just outside of Hilton Head).  We will be golfing and enjoying the warm weather.

For this week's card, I chose to use clovers as my lucky symbol.  I started by stamping the large four-leaf clovers in two shades of ink then die cutting them with the coordinating die.  Then I used a clover stencil and green ink on the green panel.  I added some glitter texture paste over them and they now look gold.  But some of the green is peeking through.  I laid out the three clovers on the left and the glittered panel on the right.  The sentiment is actually gold foil, but looks black.  I added gold pearls to the centers of the clovers.  I'm giving this card to our good Irish friend who is receiving an award at our Irish Center here in Buffalo.

Color Hues - #36 - Cards for Ukraine

My friend Nancy Leppek runs the Color Hues challenge and added this yellow and blue color combination to celebrate and support the people of Ukraine from the unprovoked war that they are facing from Putin (I'm not going to say from Russia because I don't think the Russian people want this war, at least I hope not).  She pulled this together quickly and I applaud her for doing so.

I made this for the challenge.  I used a Pink Fresh stamp/stencil/die set.  It's simple but fitting.  I added the sentiment "strong" to emulate the Ukrainian people.  I couldn't fit the secondary sentiment on the outside, so I stamped it on the inside.

"Today and Always" for certain.

This card I made before the one above just to celebrate Ukraine.  It doesn't fit the color hues challenge, but I'm posting it here anyway.  This design reminded me of something you'd see from Eastern Europe.

I just realized that my banner header is in the Ukrainian colors of blue and yellow and has sunflowers, which is the flower of Ukraine.  What a happy coincidence.

Thanks for stopping by!
