My Time to Create Sketch Challenge

Hi everyone! It's the weekend....wooohooo! And it's Saturday, so that means a My Time to Create challenge! Today we have a sketch that Lauren created for us. Here's the sketch.
I love sketches...they really help me creatively. This is one that I never would have thought of on my own. I'm not one to put things on angles and such, so it was a stretch for me, but I really like my card. I won this set at the SCS Spring Stamping event we had here in Buffalo in April. It's called You're So Punny from There She Goes. It's illustrated by Holly McMillen (Toy on SCS). I forgot I had it until a couple of weeks ago and decided to ink it up. I stamped and colored it, but it bled over the lines, so I had to cut it out and mount it on dimensionals. I'm glad I did...it gave it some texture. The sentiment inside the spout of water is from PTI's Mailbox Greetings. Holly's set has a couple that fit in there, but I wanted a get well wish so I could send this to my niece who had her wisdom teeth taken out yesterday. I added some Star Dust stickles to the waves, the spout of water, and all around the whale to simulate splashes of water.

My Time Saturday Sketch

Happy Saturday everyone! I only have two more weekends before school is done and I'm off for the summer! Can you tell I'm getting excited? I'm just thinking of all the time I'll have for more stamping and creating! These next few weeks will be a whirlwind as usual.

Well, on with this great sketch Lauren provided today. I love her sketches...so easy to follow.

Here's my interpretation of the sketch minus the sentiment. It didn't fit because of my large flowers!

I used PTI's new set called Bird Watching. When I saw the two birdhouses in this set, I was sold! I love them! This one was colored with copic markers after I chose the dp, which is SU's Parisian Breeze Specialty paper. I love this paper because the the weight, texture and fab designs. I added some sparkle with a Sakura gelly roll pen. The flowers are primas (to which I also added some sparkle with the gelly roll pen), the buttons are from PTI's new release, and the ribbon is SU's chocolate chip grosgrain. The bird's nest is NOT real! It came from something I received as part of a gift, and I thought it would be perfect to add to the picture for staging. It matches perfectly!

Birthday Lauren

Hi everyone! I thought I'd make a Birthday Lauren card from Paper Makeup Stamps today because tomorrow is my birthday! So I thought I'd start celebrating now! My best friends, Maria, Tracy and Eileen, took me out to dinner last night and we had a really nice time chatting and drinking some wine. They presented me with some awesome gifts...a new charm for my Pandora bracelet, another silver and black bracelet (I LOVE bracelets!) and a gift card to White House/Black Market! I have some awesome friends, let me tell you!

So, I used a Lauren Meader sketch for this card. It's actually one I've used before in this card, except I used an oval instead of a circle (sorry Lauren!) to accommodate this lovely image. I started with this gorgeous dp from SU called Tea Party. I am just lovin' this dp! I've used it several times! I colored Lauren accordingly and cut and embossed the image using an oval nestie. I mounted it on a piece of Regal Rose that was cut and embossed with an oval scalloped nestie. The top square is Tea Party and the bottom one is from Sweet Always dp (another fav of mine right now!). I colored the pearls with a pink copic marker to get the exact match I wanted (love this about these markers). I used a cool Martha Stewart punch for the sides (don't know the name of it). I love this punch! Lauren was given some "fairly dust" with a Spica clear star glitter pen. It gives the most wonderful **SHIMMER**. Fairies should **SHIMMER**, don't you think? LOL!

Some Challenges Going On!

I am up really late, or I should say I'm up really early, as it is 2:00 a.m.! I came back from visiting with my nephews around 9:00 last night (see this post) and couldn't sleep. So I had my sketches in hand and off I went to my basement stamping room to stamp! I actually didn't get down there until after 10:30 (yes, I'm a night owl!). I decided on two sketches...one by Lauren Meader and the other by Taylor VanBruggen. I also decided to try Sharon Johnson's Stamp Simply challenge...Let's Get Negative. I'll explain later.


This first one is Lauren's sketch. Let me just say that I was very disappointed in the way this photographed. It's so much richer and prettier in person! I used SU's Puns from the Past for this one. I've been reading the blogs and everyone seems to have gotten the flu bug! So, this card is for all of you who have been stricken by this bug! Hope you are better soon! I used Basic Grey's Bittersweet again. I just love this paper! The base is Pink Pirouette. I strayed a bit from Lauren's sketch by staggering the flowers. I just thought it looked better. When they were side-by-side as in the sketch, they looked like eyes peering at me, so askew they went! I stamped the image in Adirondack Espresso, cut and embossed it with a rectangular nestie, and sponged the Pink Pirouette on it while it was still in the die. I scalloped the edges of all the layers on the right side, even the base. I placed a piece of paper on the inside so when the card it closed the scallops pop off of it. You can see it in the second picture.






This next one is Taylor's sketch and Sharon's Let's Get Negative challenge. We were supposed to use negative images. So I started by creating a frame from a piece of certainly celery using a scallop oval nestie. I taped a piece of white behind it and stamped the sentiment in Versafine black. I then placed the nestie over the image and sponged so saffron around it and finished it off by placing two so saffron brads in the two corners. The cupcake was stamped on the white piece, cut and embossed with circle nesties, and then the liner of the cupcake was paper pieced with the dp. I then added liquid applique and sprinkled it with glitter before heating it. The cherry was colored with a red copic marker. The ribbon is so saffron grosgrain, the dp is Delicate Dots, and the sentiment on the front is Yummy, all from the Sale-a-bration catalog.

The cupcake and stamps on the inside are from Inkadinkadoo's Birthday Cupcake set. I'm not sure if I'll have another card today for the Featured Stamper challenge. I have lots of school work to do! So if I don't see you later, have a great Sunday and a wonderful week!
