Just Us Girls #595 - Wild Card Week

Hello everyone!  This is the fifth Saturday of the month which means it's Wild Card Week at Just Us Girls.  Ina is our hostess, and she gets to choose whatever type of challenge she wants.  She wants us to make anything but a card.

I love making bookmarks, which is what I chose for this challenge.  This bookmark looks pretty simple, but took a long time to make (as is usual for me).  I die cut the bookmark from heavy weight cardstock as well as from a SU retired pattern paper. I adhered them together.  Then I stamped and die cut the crayons.  I colored them with copic markers.  I used two colors for each crayon.  The sentiment was die stamped and die cut and both the sentiment and crayons were adhered to the bookmark.  I added ribbon and twine at the top.  I kept it flat (no dimension or crystals like I usually do).

You can see more from our JUGs design team and our July guest, Chrissie Stokes on the JUGs blog.  This is her last week with us and I'd like to thank her for her amazing contributions to the challenges this month!

Thanks for stopping by!

Just Us Girls #594 - Photo Week

Hello everyone!  It's Photo Week over at Just Us Girls.  Nancy chose this nautical, red, white & blue photo.  Such great inspiration!

I had every intention of using an anchor as my main image, however you can see I changed my mind!  I was at my LCC the other day and the owner has a Buffalo section of papers, stamps, and such (I'm from Buffalo, NY).  The paper that jumped out at me has this design in the red and also blue all over the 12x12 paper.  I had to go with it!  I love our Buffalo Bills (hopefully we will be going to the Super Bowl this year and win this time!).  I shamelessly cased a card that was on display.  I cut out the red design, mounted it on a white stitched rectangle then mounted that on a blue polka dotted paper.  I added crystals for good measure!  Super simple, but it reminded me of one of the photos in the inspiration piece.

Just Us Girls #593 - Color Week

Hello everyone!  Just Us Girls has a great Color Week going on.  Angie chose yellow, grey, and teal.

I used the new Honey Bee Coneflower dies for this card.  Now I know coneflowers aren't yellow (they are pink...I have several of them in my garden now), but Color Challenge!  I had to make them yellow for this challenge!  There are four layers to the flower, and I added some distress inks to them for some depth.  On the centers of the flowers, I used a light gray and dark gray cardstock.  For the leaves, I used teal cardstock and added blue ink.  The panel was inked up with a new MFT stencil in gray ink.  I added the sentiment, crystals, and shimmer spray.

Just Us Girls #592 - Trend Week

Hi everyone!  The Just Us Girls challenge this week is our Trend challenge.  Sue chose for us to recycle something on our card.  This was fun!

I save the package inserts from stamp and die sets.  I use them for cutting extra images to use for dimension.  I love the Waffle Flower packaging and found one that was the perfect size for a card.  I just cut it down a bit to fit on a yellow mat.  Then I used one of their new stamp/die/stencil combos called Spread Your Wings.  I stamped the butterflies then blended three inks on them using the stencils.  I stamped them again in the black ink because it was a bit dull.  In hindsight, I could have done this a few other ways, but this was what I went with initially.  After stamping and blending the ink, I die cut each one and then die cut each two more times to stack for dimension.  The sentiment is from The Greetery and I used the yellow and pink inks (they blended together for a peachy color) to stamp it and then die cut it as well as two more times for dimension.  I added the sub-sentiment, some crystals, and spritzed it with shimmer spray.  I love the way this came out!

Just Us Girls #591 - Word Week

Hello everyone!  Today begins a new Word Week challenge over at Just Us Girls.  Bobby chose the word SCRIPT.

I had so many choices for this challenge. I have several large scripted word dies that I could have chosen, however I just got this bicycle die from Honey Bee that I wanted to use.  I chose yellow as my feature color and went from there.  I used a polka dot stencil and yellow distress oxide ink to create the background.  That panel was die cut with a scalloped die.  Then I die cut the bicycle.  I used yellow cardstock for the main frame, silver for the handlebars and spokes, black for the wheel rim and handles, and craft for the basket.  I stamped and colored the flowers and then die cut that as well.  The script sentiment was also stamped and die cut.  I added silver crystals and shimmer spritz for sparkle.

We have a new guest designer for the month of July!  Chrissie Stokes will be with us all month.  Welcome!
