Just Us Girls #658 - Trend Week

 Hi!  I'm the hostess this week over at Just Us Girls for the Trend Week challenge.  I chose for us to make a matching envelope.  I feel envelopes get ignored sometimes and thought this would be a good challenge.

I started by making my card.  I used the Peaceful Pines stencils from Taylored Expressions.  This made four cards, but I'm only sharing one here today.  I saw one on their site using these bright colors and thought it was so fun, so I went with it.  I added some texture with their Fresh Snow paste.  It's kind of hard to see in the photos.  I stamped the sentiment and added crystals and mounted it on an aqua card base.

For the envelope, I created it in the same manner as the card to mirror it.  When I send cards to family and friends out of town, I always stamp the back flap with a sentiment that says "Greetings from Buffalo" and I have a buffalo stamp that I stamp with it (I live in Buffalo, NY).  I got it at my LSS, who special orders them.

Just Us Girls #653 - Trend Week

 Hi friends!  It's Trend Week at Just Us Girls and Sue chose CAS (clean and simple).

This is about as CAS as I can handle!  LOL!  I had these sunflowers already cut and colored on my desk.  They were colored with copic markers.  I die cut the "postage" die from Gina K and added the sunflowers with dimensionals.  The hi sentiment was die cut three times from brown cardstock and stacked together for dimension.  I stamped the sentiment in brown ink in the last block.  This was mounted on brown cardstock onto the white base. I added shimmer to the flowers.  I didn't even add any bling!  Unusual for me!

Just Us Girls #649 - Trend Week

Hello friends!  We have a new challenge over at Just Us Girls today.  It's Trend Week, and Carol Mayne has chosen REPETITION.  That's a fun and interesting trend challenge.

 

I made this card (that I've never shared) as part of the Crop and Create Delivered event sponsored by Scrapbook and Cards.  It is a weekend long event with a box of supplies from popular stamp companies (such as Gina K, Lawn Fawn, Concord & 9th, Pink Fresh, etc.) and very famous instructors (such as Gina K, Jenn Shurkus, Jennifer McGuire, etc.) doing card making classes online.  The amount of cards and supplies you end up with is crazy!  I'm doing it again in October.  I've already received my box of supplies and it's amazing once again.

This card was sponsored by The Stamp Market with Amy Yingling teaching the class.  I used the stamp set A Little Bit of Everything and the coordinating die set to create this repeated sentiment in a rainbow of colors.  I used Catherine Pooler inks.  The flower was stamped and die cut with the coordinating die set and popped up with foam dots.  I added crystals to the card and center of the flower.  It's a one-layer card ladies and gents!  Not often do I create one like that!

Just Us Girls #645 - Trend Week

Hello friends!  The Trend Week challenge at Just Us Girls is to use a stencil.  Bobby brought us this challenge this week and if you take a look at my blog, you'll see it's one I love!

This floral image may not look like a stencil, but it is!  It from Altenew, and it's a stamp, stencil, 3-D embossing folder, and die set.  I used all but the stamp.  I started by embossing the image.  Then I laid the four stencils over it and added the color.  After that, I die cut it then popped the piece back into the embossing folder to emboss again because it lost some of its dimension when I die cut it.  Before adhering it to the base, I used a cover plate to get some dimension to the background.  I added the sentiment and crystals to finish it off.

Just Us Girls #640 - Trend Week

Hi friends!  This week it’s Trend Week over at Just Us Girls and Carol Mc. Chose a fun one…rocker cards. 

 

I had never heard of this before, so I looked on Pinterest for inspiration. There are a lot of them!  I can’t believe I never heard of these!  I started by pulling out the largest scalloped circle I could find and die cut a white circle and folded it in half. Then I die cut a smaller circle from rainbow pattern paper and cut it in half.  That was adhered to the scallop circle. Then I stamped the butterfly and used the coordinating stencil to add a rainbow of inks. I adhered the bottom part of the butterfly to the rocker part. For some shimmer, I added crystals and shimmer to the butterfly.  I had a limited amount of space, and the small “hi” sentiment fit perfectly.

Just Us Girls #632 - Trend Week

 Hi friends!  The Trend Week challenge over at Just Us Girls is hosted by Carol.  She's chosen shaped cards for our challenge.

I had to search high and low for this die set from Honey Bee!  I knew I had it and was pleased when I finally found it.  I've had it forever, and it's the first time it is being used....can you believe it?  LOL!  It is so fast and easy to create, so I made four of them.  I die cut the card part from white card stock.  Then I used some Tonic velvet black card stock for the tops of the bottles and glitter card stock in various colors for the bottoms.  The die set has two different bows, so I created two of each from coordinating colored card stock.  I adhered two on an angle and two straight on.  I had to find a small die for the front and found this "hi" sentiment.  On the card with the bow angled, I also angled the die cut.  The other two were adhered straight.

These are adorable.  I love the blue one!

My current nail polish is very similar to the pink one here!  

These cards are very small, so I had to find sentiments for the inside that would fit.  These are the ones I chose, both from MFT.

Just Us Girls #627 - Trend Week

 Hi friends!  It's Trend Week at Just Us Girls.  Ina wants us to use foil on alcohol inked cards.  I love creating with alcohol inks!

If you have all the necessary supplies (which aren't much), this is such a fun, fast and really easy technique.  Using alcohol ink paper (or you can use Yupo paper), I put some blending solution on the paper to get it wet so the inks move right away.  I only used two inks on this one:  sail boat blue and wild plum.  They really start moving and combining right away, but I wanted some "rivers" for lack of a better word.  This is where the inks sort of pool and create a lines that are great for applying foil when they are dry.  So I used a Tim Holtz air blower to move the inks around and create these "rivers".  The inks dry super fast, about 15 minutes.  When it was dry (but the "rivers" still a bit tacky), I placed a piece of silver foil (pretty side up, I learned the hard way!) over the "rivers" and pressed the foil into the ink.  Because the ink is still tacky there, the foil sticks to it.  

You can see the foil better here with the light shining on it.  Once that was done, I trimmed the piece down and added it to silver cardstock, mounting it on craft foam for dimension.  (I die cut a rectangle from the center of that silver cardstock so it's not wasted.)  I added some foiled sentiments from Pink Fresh as well as some silver crystals to finish it.  Simple card.  I wanted to highlight the techniqe.

Just Us Girls #623 - Trend Week

 Hi friends!  It's Trend Week at Just Us Girls.  Vicki chose using EMBOSSING FOLDERS.  Get out all those folders collecting dust!

I pulled out this Circle Rings embossing folder for this challenge.  I don't know if it's considered 3-D, but the impressions are very deep.  Then I pulled out this Poppies stamp and die set.  I waited so long for this set because it was always out of stock.  It's such a simple design, but I just love it!  I first stamped it with black ink then used the coordinating stamps in three shades of peach for the flowers and two shades of green for the leaves.  I used the same three shades of peach to create an ombre design on the embossed panel, or at least I tried.  There doesn't look like enough of a difference between the three colors and my blending looks a bit splotchy.  I added a sentiment that was stamped in black and embossed with clear embossing powder.  I added clear sequins on the flowers to finish it.

Just Us Girls #619 - Trend Week

 Hello!  The Trend challenge this week at Just Us Girls is to make your own stencil.  Sue came up with this challenge, and I had such fun with it!

This is my first attempt.  I die cut a cover plate and used that as my stencil.  Very simple technique.  I used a bunch of rainbow colors and blended them onto a piece of white cardstock using the piece I die cut.  I wanted to add something to the middle of those designs, so I cut small pieces of white glitter paper and adhered them to the die to get those little pieces.  Then I added crystals to the centers of each one.  I die cut the sentiment from black cardstock and the shadow from white.  

When I was done, I was left with this colorful piece I used as my stencil.  I couldn't let it go to waste, so I added it to a white card base and added the sentiment and crystals.  

I was trying out different cover plates to use as stencils, so here's another one I created.  I die cut the "stencil" from cardstock and used it with blue ink to create this panel.  I die cut the sentiment from holographic paper and adhered it to the white shadow.  I added silver crystals.

Once again, I had the "stencil" that I couldn't discard, so I added it to a white card base.  I wanted to fancy it up a bit, so i die cut these flowers and leaves fro white cardstock.  I blended color onto the leaves a two of  the flowers and added them to the front.  The sentiment is from a foiled sentiment pack, and I added silver crystals.

Just Us Girls #614 - Trend Week

Hello everyone!  The Just Us Girls challenge this week is hosted by Vicki and is our Trend Week challenge.  She chose to make inked or sprayed backgrounds.  I made a few (!) cards this week!

I used a technique that Jennifer McGuire demonstrated a little while ago with alcohol inks.  Basically, I put blending solution then various inks on one panel and placed another panel on top for a few seconds.  I then pulled them apart.  You get some cool designs on both panels

For this one and the next, I used raspberry, blue and violet pearl inks.  I just love the way these panels came out!  It is so much prettier in person.  I could not capture how lovely is it.  To create this card, I cut the panel down to fit behind this floral frame die.  I impressed the front of the card base with a linen impression plate (I can't leave a panel pure white!), stamped the sentiment, and added crystals.

This is the second panel.  I also cut it down and added silver cardstock strips and sentiment as well as silver crystals.  I CASED one of Jennifer's cards here.

This one looks weired and distorted, but it's really pretty!  I used yellow, coral and pink inks along with a silver mixative.  I die cut the panel with PTI's Tipped Top die and used a larger die to cut the silver mat.  I die cut the sentiment twice from white cardstock and once from silver and stacked them together.  The sub sentiment is a SSS sentence strip.  I love the silver shimmer in this panel.

This is the other panel, die cut with a stitched rectangle.  The sentiment was die cut twice from white and once from silver and stacked.  I added silver crystals.

For the panels on the next two cards, it's not as dramatic looking.  I used the same yellow, coral and pink alcohol inks, but didn't add the silver mixative.  But I still love the effects.  I cut the panel to fit behind this smaller cover plate.  The sentiment was created with black ink embossed with with clear embossing powder.  I added the sentence strip below it and some white pearls.

I added a full cover panel on this one with an embossed sentiment and sentence strip as well.

Just Us Girls #601 - Trend Week

Hello friends!  It's Trend Week over at Just Us Girls and Elizabeth is hosting her first challenge as a design team member.  She chose for us to make a shaker card.  Love those!  They are so fun to make and shake!

 

I was at a stamp show a couple of weekends ago and bought this Hootie Owl die set with several add-on holiday sets from Jillian Vance.  The samples they had on display using these dies just hooked me!  I thought this witch owl would be cute atop a shaker.  I'm sending this to my sweet great-niece and I think she will love it!  

I started by die cutting and putting the owl together.  I wanted googly eyes instead of the circles that came with the set, but I wish they were bigger.  These were the largest I could find in my stash.  I die cut the frame four times from white card stock and once from black.  I adhered the white ones together then cut a piece of acetate and adhered that to the black piece.  I took one of the fall out pieces from the white die cut and stamped spider webs on it.  To put the card together, I first adhered the pattern paper to the card base then adhered the white frames and the middle piece on top.  I added the shaker bits inside the well of the frame and attached the black piece with the acetate to cover the shaker.  Then I added the owl and sentiment strip.  So fun to make!

Just Us Girls #597 - Trend Week

Hello to a new challenge at Just Us Girls!  This week is Trend Week, and Vicki chose black and white!

 

I made two cards because of the design of this die.  I started by die cutting this pinwheel die from black and white cardstock.  On this one, I took the white frame and added in the black pinwheel pieces.  The butterfly is a two part die...one solid and one decorative.  I also die cut those from black and white cardstock, and on this one I placed the black decorative piece on top of the solid white.  I added a preprinted sentiment, crystals, and shimmer spray. 

For this card, I did the exact opposite of what I did above.  I love the way these came together!
