The Big 16th Birthday

I don't think you call it a "sweet 16" when it's a boy's birthday, do you? Anyway, I made this for Brad, my husband's "little brother". Kevin and Brad have been paired up through the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program since Brad was 7 years old. His mom had just signed him up for the program a few months earlier, and the organization told her it could be a couple of years before he was paired up with anyone. Well, Kevin happened to join just at the right time, and they were paired up. It's been a great relationship for all of us. Since we don't have any children of our own, Brad has become our surrogate child and part of our family. He's a great kid and we all enjoy having him around. Wednesday is his actual birthday, but we are having a little celebration here today and I wanted to give him a "car" card. In New York, you can begin to drive at the age of sixteen. I'm not sure when he's getting his permit, but I'm sure Kevin will be taking him out driving when he does get it!

I pulled out SU's retired classic convertibles for this one. I stamped it in Versafine and colored it with a copic marker. I used a silver Spica pen on the chrome, but you can't see it in the picture. I had this all mounted and ready to go and then decided it needed something else! So I pulled it apart, made the tire track panel with a retired SU wheel and put it back together again. Much better with the added layer! I hope Brad likes it, and I know he'll laugh when he sees the car!

Don't forget to stop by Cheryl Rowley's blog,
Cottage Creations, for a chance at some great blog candy. She's celebrating 10,000 hits! Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!

I just found your blog yesterday & am even more impressed now with the generosity of you sharing your family with such a wonderful organization. We have been in bowling tournaments to help raise money for this same organization.

I think your card is perfect! He will love it that you are thinking of him especially by making him his own special card & recognizing it's his 16th bday!

What a wonderful expression of kindness to be apart of such a great organization.

Stampin' Smiles from Ear to Ear,
Ann :)

Super card! Love the black and white with the hot red! Such a balanced layout! A real pleaser!

I had a Little Sis from age 8 until age 18! Sadly, we have lost touch. But it is such a worthwhile thing to do!
